Rosh Hashana Sermon - Positivity and Joy

The 7th October 2011, the encounter between England and Montenegro in the Euro 2012 qualification matches, with England cruising to victory - Wayne Rooney - the England ace - who was frustrated at not getting into the match and for personal reasons, fiercly in glummness kicked out Miodrag Dzudovic, a moment of madness due to his sadness of state of mind before the game and during the game - cost him so much - as he waked off he was met by the sound of a chorus of boos - with the angry fans shouting - 'we hate Rooney - Yes we hate Rooney - We Hate Rooney yes we hate Rooney - we are the Wayne Rooney haters - he received a lot of very bad press from the media, what was an incrdible start to the season prior to the match - his season took a downturn over the coming couple of months - he was widly condemned worldwide and ended up missing out on the first two matches of the competition also resulting in his lack of sharpness throughout the prized competition - which a fully participating Rooney could have helped England win the competition! If only he came in to the match with a more positive, happy state of Mind!

In fact one of the themes of Rosh Hoshana and Yom Kippur is all about being in a healthy sweet happy state of mind - the Haftorah portion we are reading comprises of Channa - one of the ten prophet songs featured in Biblical history, the first being Adam in Gan Eden, the second being Az Yashir (the song of the sppliting of the see as we see in the book of Shemot) and many others also including the Torah portion of Haazinu which we we read during this time period that is the fourth prophetic song. Channa - a very rightous lady was barren for many years and with such a desire for wanting to have children cried to Hashem - but recognising that the divine presence could only come when in a joyous, happy state of mind - she sang what was to become one of the most potent joyous of poetic songs in world history - it actually comprises as the begging of the book of Samuel, for many years she did pray, however on that occasion she knew she needed the extra sweetness of a happy state in order for her prayer to totally reach Hashem and in order for her to say the prayer with the potency she did it with! Ultimatly Hashem answered her prayer and that day according to the tractate in the Talmud  of Berachot was the day in which Hashem 'remembered' Channa and ultimatly she became pregnant. Along those themes the other Haftorah we are reading over these High holidays features - Yitzchak - his mother Sara - just like Channa was also barren for many years and as the talmud testifies, G-d so to did 'remember' Sara on the day of Rosh Hashana itself, in fact Yitzchak, just like Channa knew how important and sweet was being in a state of happiness, simcha - when he was planning to showing his precious blessing to Eisav - he knew in order to achieve the greatest degree of blessing - he would have to be in a state of total simcha! Despite Yaakov ended up taking the blessings with also Eisav taking a powerful and effective blessing afterwards - we see Yitzchak's powerful blessing in many became apparent through the coarse of history.

So too we see testified in the Torah and Talmud itself how negativity is considered undesired in the Torah - Yitzchak's son - Yaakov - after suffering from much travails in life encountered the Egyptian King - Pharoeh - int his conversation which was between the Hebrew King of the time engaging with the World Leader - it featured an exchange of 33 words - between the pair of them - Yaakov was describing how negative parts of his life had been - we know according to the opinion of the Daat Zekainim Yaakov was meant to live up to the age of 180 years, for every word featured in this conversation according tot hose great sages he lost a yeat of his life and ultimatly lived only up till 147 years.
